The final match of the Inter-Department Football Tournament at Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) was held on Monday (28 July) at the university’s central playground. The Civil Engineering (CE) Department clinched the championship title and lifted the winner’s trophy.
A total of 14 departments of RUET participated in the tournament, which began on 29 June. After the group stage, quarter-finals, and semi-finals, the Civil Engineering (CE) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) departments qualified for the final. The match ended in a nail-biting 1-1 draw during regular time. Eventually, CE Department secured victory by defeating ME Department 4-2 in the tie-breaker. Mehedi from CE (Jersey No. 7) was named the ‘Man of the Match’. The Industrial & Production Engineering (IPE) Department claimed third place, while the Computer Science & Engineering (CSE) Department was awarded the Fair Play Trophy.
Due to official engagements, RUET Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. S. M. Abdur Razzak could not attend the event. In his absence, Director of the Students' Welfare Office, Professor Dr. Md. Rabiul Islam Sarker, handed over the trophies and medals to the winners as the chief guest.
The award ceremony was conducted by Acting Chief Physical Education Officer Md. Mahbubul Alam. Among others present were Head of the ME Department Professor Dr. Mohammad Shahed Hasan Khan Tushar, Deputy Director (Finance) of the Students' Welfare Office Professor Dr. Md. Abdullah Al Mahmood, CE Professor Dr. Bulbul Ahmed, and Deputy Director (Administration) of the Students' Welfare Office Z.H.M. Monjur Murshed, along with faculty members and students from the participating departments.
